My research interests focus on optical networks and network survivability, which include the following sub-areas:

  • Spectrum- and energy-efficient optical networks
  • Integration of EPON and WiMAX
  • Translucent optical networks
  • Network thermodynamic theory of telecommunications networks and applying nature principles to telecommunications networks
  • Protected Working Capacity Envelope (PWCE)-based dynamic survivable service provisioning
  • Survivable optical networks, and in particular, p-cycles and path-segment-based survivability techniques

  • Lightpath routing and wavelength assignments for optical networks
  • Control and management of optical networks
  • Architectural design and control algorithm development for single- and multiple-stage MEMS optical switches
